About us
Robin Steel Land Agency was set up on the 1st August 2019 by Robin Steel who has practised as a land agent in the North of England and South of Scotland for well over 40 years. He is from a farming background and spent his teenage years working on farms during school holidays and at weekends. He joined Smiths Gore (now part of Savills) as a pupil improver in 1974 and eventually took his professional exams by way of a correspondence course with Reading University before qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor in 1985 and a Full Member of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers in 1986. He then joined Longtown Auction Mart in 1988 and set up and managed a successful land and estate agency business for the Company for over 30 years before deciding to branch out on his own.
He is ably supported by Tracey Johnston who has been his secretary/PA for over 25 years and who has a wealth of experience working in a busy land agency office. Tracey is a farmer’s daughter from Caldbeck and is now married to a farmer from Durdar and has two young children who keep her busy outside of work. In her spare time she enjoys going to the gym, fell walking and socialising with friends.
Robin has a wealth of experience in most aspects of Land Agency but now specialises in the sale/purchase and valuation of farms, agricultural land and forestry. He also manages several small estates and deals with agricultural lettings (both seasonal and longer term), as well as Environmental Scheme work, compensation claims and Landlord and Tenant matters for many of his long term clients.
He is married with three grown up children, three granddaughters and one grandson. A keen rugby player in his youth, he now tries to keep fit by playing badminton and tennis on a regular basis with the occasional winter skiing trip, as well as working in his woodland and fell walking at weekends.
Robin is a Member of the RICS (MRICS), A Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (FAAV) and is a RICS Registered Valuer.
